Crinone® is a specially formulated vaginal gel that contains the female hormone called progesterone, which is essential for maintaining a pregnancy. The gel forms a coating on the walls of the vagina that allows the absorption of progesterone. Crinone® gel can be used as a progesterone supplement or replacement in conjunction with assisted reproductive technologies. Administered once or twice daily directly into the vagina using a specially designed applicator that delivers a pre-measured dose. Since Crinone® is administered through the vagina; the amount of drug circulating in the bloodstream is minimal. Crinone® is generally well tolerated. The most frequent side effects are breast enlargement, constipation, sleepiness, nausea, cramps, breast pain, and headache.
Crinone® should not be used if there is a known sensitivity to progesterone, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, liver dysfunction or disease, known or suspected malignancy of the breast or genital organs, missed abortion, active thrombophlebitis or thromboembolic disorders or a history of hormone-associated thrombophlebitis. Do not use Crinone® if: You are allergic to progesterone, progesterone-like drugs, or any of the inactive ingredients in the gel, you have unusual vaginal bleeding, you have liver disease, you have known or suspected cancer of the breast or genital organs, you had a miscarriage and your physician suspects some tissue is still in the uterus, or if you have or have had blood clots in the legs, lungs, eyes, or elsewhere
Crinone® should not be left in areas of extreme temperatures, such as a hot car. The medication should be stored at room temperature below 77° F (25° C).
