In treating infertility, Climara® patches are used to help prepare the lining of the uterus to receive an egg, whether it is a donor egg or an egg from in-vitro fertilization. Climara® should be applied directly on the skin. Choose a clean, dry, and hairless area of the abdomen or upper buttocks. The patch should be work continuously for 1 week (or as directed by your doctor). Rotate application sites weekly to avoid skin irritation.
Minor skin irritation at the application site may occur. Some other common reported adverse effects of Climara® include headache, bloating, nausea and vomiting. Some patients can also have changes in the menstrual cycle, such as spotting or changes in flow, and excess fluid retention. Serious but rare effects reported include uterine and breast cancer, gallbladder disease, and abnormal blood clotting
Do not apply the Climara® patch to your breasts. Climara® should not be used in women with a history of breast or uterine cancer. Caution should also be used with women with cardiovascular disease. Store Climara® patches in their protective pouches until ready to use. Store at room temperature.
