For the treatment of chronic hepatitis C in patients with compensated liver disease who have not been previously treated with interferon alpha. By subcutaneous injection in the abdomen or thigh Flu-like symptoms which should subside after a few weeks of therapy (fever, chills, muscle aches). Depression, anxiety, and irritability have also been reported. Drug Interactions noted with Pegasys include: theophylline, methadone, and didanosine. Serious adverse reactions noted in <1% of patients on Pegasys include depression, suicide, and bacterial infections.
Pegasys should be used with caution in patients with a history of endocrine disorders, autoimmune disorders, pulmonary disorders, and preexisting cardiovascular disease. Pegasys should be discontinued in patients who develop severe infections and appropriate antibiotic therapy given. Patients need to keep all appointments for blood work and follow up with physician regularly. Pegasys should be used with extreme caution in patients with a history of depression.
Store in the refrigerator. Do not freeze.
