Cetrotide® is a GNRH antagonist indicated for the suppression of premature LH surges in women undergoing controlled ovarian hyperstimulation. Cetrotide® results in the immediate suppression of gonadotropin & sex hormone activity and is used as an alternative to GNRH agonists.
Cetrotide® is supplied as a powder requiring reconstitution. The product should be reconstituted with 3mL of sterile water for injection. Cetrotide® is administered via subcutaneous injection to the abdomen. The dose should be divided into (2) 1.5mL subcutaneous injections and given in separate areas of the lower abdomen.
Common adverse effects include abdominal pain, headache, hot flashes, and injection site reactions. Rare but severe side effects reported include ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and vaginal bleeding Cetrotide® should not be used in patients with previous hypersensitivities to GNRH or mannitol. Patients should not use Cetrotide® if they are pregnant or lactating. Cetrotide® 3mg should be stored at room temperature
